I am heading down to Mt. Adams endurance ride this Friday. Woo hoo! I am planning on an LD, which might not seem like much, but it will be the longest I will have been in the saddle since 2012. Galen and I have been doing good 3 1/2 hour rides and he is certainly ready. I intend to bring lots of medication for myself.
My husband and I went on a ‘shake-down’ cruise of our new (to us) camper this past weekend, mainly to find out all the things wrong with it. We keep telling ourselves “It’s paid for”. We have learned a bunch of things about buying a used camper, I will say.
Driving up to Deception Pass (where we planned to camp Saturday night), I kept remarking on the rude drivers who wouldn’t let us get in their lane. Well, no doubt those ‘rude’ drivers were remarking on my lack of turn signals and brake lights! We didn’t check before we left the house.
As I was filling up the water tanks, I heard dripping, then gushing, as the water flowed out of the camper. I think it had been winterized and all the valves opened. As to where all those valves were? No clue, so we went without water.
We tried to power it up on the (brand new) battery. Nada. So, we camped in a spot that had a plug-in (which worked fine). But, this weekend I will be on generator and battery power.
On the plus side – very roomy and comfortable (once I get a better mattress). We did hook it up to the horse trailer when we got home on Sunday and check out the turning radius. This camper is 3 inches longer than our old one. I really didn’t want to buy a new, longer extender hitch, as those are very expensive. Conclusion: As long as I drive as I normally do, which means no jack-knifing, we’ll be fine with the current set up.
Instead of trying to fix all the little problems ourselves, I took it into an RV shop yesterday. I’m sure it will be more expensive than doing it ourselves, but hopefully, it will all work by Friday.
Oh, and I have been working my horse!
