As the days are getting shorter and the rains are getting more frequent, we try to take advantage of those really lovely fall days. Last week, Monica came out on one of those glorious, crisp days with really nice light. She is borrowing a camera from Julie Godard, so we decided to ‘test’ it out by taking some foal photos. Foal photos can be challenging, as you need to get not only good weather, but the foals themselves should be reasonably balanced. Anyone that has raised foals knows this can happen for about 5 minutes and then they grow again, often in ungainly and interesting ways.
I think she did a pretty nice job! Both these foals are for sale; they stay here with their dams board free until they are 6 or so months old and then after they are ok with being by themselves, can go to their new homes. Even though raising a foal is a journey, I love it, as you know exactly what has gone into your horse, what sort of training has been done and you can have an awesome bond with them. I also love to see my ‘kids’ (as I call them) grow up and do great things!
First is Khaleesi (no real name yet, I’m still thinking), Gallo x Aishet, big, correct, bold, should mature 16 hands plus.
$8500 plus one foal back or $9500 without.
And George, 2016 colt Merdan x Asalari, typey, correct, laid back. Should mature around 15.2
