Yes, it’s that time of year again – weaning time! Rocket is 5 months old and his dam, Tulah, needs to go back home. So, the last few days have been ‘Intro to Weaning’. I do it the slow way – it seems to be much easier on everyone, mom, baby, me and the neighbors.
So, to begin with, Tulah and Rocket went out with Aya and Annie. They did that for a while. No problem.
Then, I put Annie and Rocket in one paddock and Aya and Tulah in the adjoining one. No problem. A little bit of fence running to begin with, but a bit of feed and all was well.
Then, I added Stanley in with Annie and Rocket. The fun began! Annie, who was pretty much ‘hands off’ up until now, made it very, VERY clear to Stanley that any bullying of Rocket was NOT allowed. Nice grazing, ok. Romping a bit, fine. But, get a little silly and the experienced Annie said “NO WAY”

Then, we moved everyone back over to the big barn (where there are shelters) with Annie and Rocket in one paddock and Aya and Tulah in another.
So now, I just need to send Tulah home!
