This past weekend was our week of ‘Spring in January’. Temperatures got up to around 70 degrees, the grass is growing, the frogs are croaking and the horses are shedding. So, to honor this, I hauled horses up to the Victoria Village tract of the Pilchuck Tree Farm. Kelsey Weinberg rode Andy, we met my friend Wendy with her Teke-QH cross Taz and I rode Galen.
We stayed pretty much on the roads, although did nip off into the woods once or twice. Galen lost a boot somewhere along the way, which we never did find. Kelsey did a great job of calming Andy down – he’s getting fitter and was so excited by the new location, lots of horses, dogs, cars, etc.
We did around 2 -2 1/2 hours and my ankles were ready to call it quits. But, it seems like they are slowly getting stronger, so I guess it’s all good!
Andy and Kelsey in the lead
Andy has also decided that HE is the leader. He’s gone from never wanting to lead to deciding he is the ‘one’. Funny thing is, I’m riding him quite a bit at home and he is really feeling special. Galen always used to be the top horse in the ‘boys’ paddock, but lately Andy is saying he is. It’s sort of interesting to see his personality really emerge.
