After doing my quick and dirty taxes, I realized that Larry and I had done pretty well in 2015. Enough so that we were going to have to pay a pretty big chunk of change to Uncle Sam. So, on December 31st, we went shopping.
We have been planning/hoping for a backhoe for many years; Larry has dug way too many ditches by hand. We went to our local Kubota dealer to buy a new backhoe for our trusty farm tractor.
Unfortunately, our tractor old enough that they no longer carry backhoes that would fit it. We could have scoured the classifieds and tried to find a used one, or…
Buy a new tractor!
They just happened to have the newer version of our tractor right there in the showroom, with a backhoe attachment and all sorts of rebates, great financing and an eager staff. So, we bought it. We also got a fancy harrow, so I can work on the back 2 1/2 acres this year.
Larry driving it after it arrived.
There have been advances since we bought our first tractor; like 2 PTO sockets, lower to the ground and no doubt a bunch of other things I haven’t played with yet.
We did have to try out the backhoe.
We both agreed that there is a learning curve to it and we’ll have to do some practicing before we try using it in any sort of tight quarters. But, it will sure make ditch digging easier!
Larry took off the backhoe and put on the 3 point hitch so I can use it this week to groom the arena.
I think this counts as our Christmas, Anniversary (29th this time) and my birthday present.
